The uncomfortable truth for Bangladeshi students: unlike New Zealand, most Australian states restrict the tertiary transport concession to citizens, permanent residents and (in some states) certain long-term visa holders — not standard student visa (subclass 500) holders. Double-check your specific state's current rules each year, since Queensland and a few states have trialled broader eligibility.

Bikes and e-scooters
A used bike is still the single biggest saving available to a student who lives within 5km of campus.
A second-hand bike from Facebook Marketplace or a uni bike co-op runs A$100–250 (৳7,900–19,750) once, versus roughly A$2,000+ a year in full fares. Helmets are legally required in every state. Share e-scooters (Lime, Neuron, Beam) operate in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and parts of Sydney's inner suburbs, priced around A$0.45/minute plus an unlock fee — fine occasionally, expensive as a daily commute.
Buying your first car
Most students only consider this outside the big three cities, or once they move for work.

Budget the real total, not just the sticker price
A reliable used car is A$5,000–12,000. On top of that: registration/rego (A$300–900/yr depending on state), Compulsory Third Party insurance (CTP, often bundled into rego), comprehensive insurance (A$800–1,800/yr for a young driver), and a roadworthy/safety certificate (A$50–150) required to transfer registration in most states.

A mechanic's check (A$100–200) before buying privately is cheap insurance against a A$3,000 repair bill.

Transfer registration within 14 days
Each state's road authority (Transport for NSW, VicRoads, TMR Qld, DoT WA, Service SA) charges stamp duty on transfer, typically 3–4% of the car's value.
Converting your Bangladeshi driving licence
