Course list by tier — from PR-gold to avoid

Every popular Australian course sorted Tier 1 to Tier 4 by PR value, job demand and cost — so you don't spend 40 lakh on a dead-end qualification.

How the tiers work

Every course is scored on four things: how directly it maps to the Core Skills Occupation List or a state nomination list, how many graduate jobs exist per graduate, total cost including two years of living, and how exposed you are to oversupply from other international students chasing the same degree. Tier 1 courses pay for themselves. Tier 4 courses are visa-legal but career-expensive.

Tier 1
Strong PR + jobs
Highest return per taka
Tier 2
Good, needs strategy
Works with the right city and skills assessment
Tier 3–4
Proceed carefully
Oversupplied or weak return

Tier 1 — the PR-gold courses

Direct line from classroom to a genuinely short-supplied occupation with a clear skills assessment path.

Bachelor / Master of Nursing

Tier 1AHPRA registration required
Duration
2–3 years
Tuition
A$34,000–42,000/yr (৳26.9–33.2 lakh)
Graduate roles
Registered nurse, aged care, mental health
Where
Nationwide — aged care demand is highest everywhere

The strongest single course-to-PR pathway available. Only enter if you can handle clinical placements and shift work; registration and OET/IELTS requirements are strict.

Civil / Structural / Electrical Engineering (bachelor's or master's)

Tier 1Engineers Australia pathway
Duration
1.5–4 years
Tuition
A$38,000–48,000/yr (৳30–37.9 lakh)
Graduate roles
Design engineer, site engineer, infrastructure
Where
Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane

Get an Engineers Australia pre-assessment of your Bangladeshi engineering degree before enrolling — you may need far less additional study than expected.

Master of Information Technology / Cybersecurity / Data Science

Tier 1ACS-accredited, portfolio driven
Duration
1.5–2 years
Tuition
A$38,000–48,000/yr (৳30–37.9 lakh)
Graduate roles
Software engineer, security analyst, data engineer
Where
Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide

Crowded but genuinely hiring. Choose an ACS-accredited course and prioritise an internship and shipped projects over the university's ranking.

Bachelor / Diploma in Early Childhood Education

Tier 1Consistently short-supplied
Duration
2–4 years
Tuition
A$28,000–36,000/yr (৳22.1–28.4 lakh)
Graduate roles
Early childhood teacher, centre director
Where
Nationwide

Under-used by Bangladeshi students and consistently short-supplied. Solid state nomination odds with far less competition than ICT or accounting.

Diploma / Certificate in a licensed trade (electrical, automotive)

Tier 1TRA assessment
Duration
1–3 years plus apprenticeship hours
Tuition
A$18,000–26,000/yr (৳14.2–20.5 lakh)
Graduate roles
Licensed electrician, automotive technician
Where
Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane

The cheapest Tier 1 route by far. Licensing timelines are the bottleneck — start apprenticeship hours and TRA paperwork from day one.

Tier 2 — good with the right strategy

Solid employability if you pick an accredited course, the right city and lock in Australian work experience early.

Tier 3 — only with a clear plan

Legitimate qualifications, but the graduate job market is thin, oversubscribed, or the degree alone is not enough to clear a skills assessment.

CourseWhy it's Tier 3Make it work by
Generic MBAEmployers want Australian management experience first; occupation ceilings fill fastDoing it after 2+ years of Australian work, not before
Master of Professional Accounting (standalone)CSOL ceiling fills quickly across most roundsPairing with CPA/CA pathway and Professional Year, and a backup occupation
Master of International BusinessNo direct occupation match on skilled listsCombining with a second, listed occupation or a technical undergrad
Hospitality ManagementReal job supply but low wages and low PR valueTargeting supervisory roles, not front-of-house shifts
Generic Master of IT (non-ACS-accredited)ACS may not recognise it fully for skills assessmentVerifying ACS accreditation before enrolling, not after

Tier 4 — think very hard first

Courses students are sold most often and regret most often.

Short diplomas at low-fee private colleges with no clear degree pathway, repeated back-to-back certificates at the same AQF level, and generic "business" diplomas advertised mainly on visa duration rather than career outcome. They are cheap per year, but graduates routinely cannot pass a relevant skills assessment, and the Department of Home Affairs scrutinises repetitive low-level study patterns closely at visa renewal. Students commonly spend ৳10–16 lakh over two to three years and finish no closer to a skilled occupation than when they started.

The one question that sorts every course

"Which specific occupation code will I use in my skills assessment, and is that occupation currently open on the CSOL or my target state's nomination list?" Check this on the Department of Home Affairs and the relevant state government website before you pay a deposit — not after you arrive.

Post-study work rights are not automatic forever

Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa length depends on your qualification level, whether you studied in a Designated Regional Area, and current settings, which the government reviews periodically. A course below bachelor's level, or one not clearly matched to a skilled occupation, can leave you with limited or no post-study work rights. Confirm the exact 485 entitlement for your specific programme with the Department of Home Affairs before you enrol.
