Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL) generally have the most competitive fares and connection choices since they're the busiest Canadian gateways; Vancouver (YVR) and Calgary (YYC) fares are usually a bit higher and have fewer daily connection options, so book those earlier.
The transit-visa trap — don't route through the US without a US visa
